Decision comes after factory shutdown announced in September 2020. Video game distribution, warranty and technical assistance for electronics will be maintained in the country.
Sony announced on Monday (1st) that it will end its commercial activities in Brazil by the end of March, interrupting the sale of products such as TVs, cameras and audio equipment.
The sale of the Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 video games, which are imported, continues. Performance in other areas, including Sony Pictures and Sony Music, also remains.
Technical assistance and warranty for all branded products will be maintained “for as long as necessary, complying with local consumer protection regulations and requirements”, according to a company statement.

In 2019, Sony also stopped selling cell phones in Brazil, in a decision that included all of South America, Central America and the Middle East. The measure was taken taking into account the drop in sales of their smartphones around the world.
The closure of trade in Brazil had been announced last September, when Sony closed its factory after almost five decades in the country.
To G1, at the time, Sony’s press office informed that the factory in Manaus had 220 employees.
In December, Mondial bought the land, the factory and equipment from Sony to produce TVs, microwaves and air conditioners.
